Story_initial flesh-out

Finished the script for Asa's film:

THE DAY THAT I DIED

EXT. DREAM WORLD – DAY (Fade from Black)

Sophie, a 6yr old Icelandic girl, wakes in the ‘Dream world’. There is a hint of fretful disposition in the way she surveys this strange, almost barren surrounding. Her anxiety peaks as a creature approaches through the mist. As angst turns to relief, she recognises the creature. It’s her best friend ‘Bobo’, there to help her catch the ‘train’.
As Bobo circles around Sophie, her surroundings take a new meaning (with details emerging in an anti-clockwise manner). The world is populated by people and creatures, seemingly unaware of each others’ presence.

INT. TRAIN STATION – DREAM WORLD – DAY

Sophie and Bobo’s excitement reaches its climax with a warm embrace. Their blissful reunion is cut short by an ominous presence. Bobo urges Sophie to get on his back as they make a dash for the train, with a dark shadow in pursuit. The closer the dark subject gets to the couple, the clearer the sounds of the ‘real world’ filter through and the more violent the disruption of the world around them. Inevitably, the dark matter catches up to them, separating Sophie from Bobo.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – NIGHT

Sophie abruptly wakes to the confusion around her. She’s just been resuscitated by the hospital staff. Clearly in pain, she reaches out, softly grasping her grieving mother’s hand. Sophie smiles and in that instance, Gloria knew it was “time to let go” of her only child. The mother hugs her daughter as she gently slips away. Gloria places an inanimate ‘Bobo’ [audience realise that it’s her doll] on her daughter as the camera pans out {plan view} in an anti-clockwise fashion…….(Fade to white)

INT. TRAIN STATION – DREAM WORLD – DAY (Fade from white)

Bobo makes a frantic dash for the moving train, with Sophie hanging on like a cape to a Super Hero. It’s about to exit the station as Bobo grabs onto it, letting Sophie clamber on board. They say their goodbye as the distance between them widens.
The train flies to heaven.

Story_treatment

I wrote a story treatment, ready for tomorrow's presentation:

“THE DAY THAT I DIED”

(Fade from Black) – Sophie wakes in the dream world.

She’s anxious as a creature approaches her.

Her anxiety turns to relief when she recognises ‘Bobo’ (who’s there to help her with her journey to the train).

The environment takes a new meaning as Bobo circles her.

Bobo urges her to get on his back, when he sees the encroaching ‘Monster’.

The monster catches up to them and Sophie awakes on her hospital bed, with the staff trying to resuscitate her.

She grasps her grieving mum’s fingers, smiling, letting her mum know it’s time to let go.

The mother hugs her daughter as she gently slips away.

The mother places an inanimate Bobo on her daughter as the camera pans out (plan position - in an anti-clockwise fashion).

Sophie’s back in the dream world (on Bobo’s back) as they dash for the train.

They make the train just in time and Bobo says good-bye. End
